"DAYTIME" By Andy
"A long time ago in the dreamtime when there was no day or night a fight between the brolga and emu
resulted in an egg being smashed into the sky. It burst into flame, all the creatures and the sky people
for the first time saw beautiful colours. Soon the egg died down and the first sunset was seen. The sky
people were saddened that all the colours were gone. So the next morning as the cookaburra called out, the sky people gathered sticks and built a fire in the sky which again brought all the colours. They have
done this every day since. But don’t imitate the cookaburra for fear of offending the sky people who
may not build a fire that day.

As told to the children of Mananura by visiting elders
